Gene Haynes is one of the founding members of Haynes Whaley Associates. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1966 from The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Gene has over 35 years of experience in the planning and design of building structural systems, specializing in the industrial and retail project sectors. Gene was a forerunner in the technical development of tilt-up construction and is an active member of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association and the American Concrete Institute Committee 551, which provides industry-wide standards and practice guidelines for tilt-up concrete buildings. |

Larry Whaley is one of the founding members of Haynes Whaley Associates. Larry directs the administrative and marketing activities of the firm. He leads the firm in striving for creativity, sound engineering, and team collaboration. Larry’s education includes a Master of Science in Engineering in 1971 from Rice University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Highest Distinction in 1968 from University of Kentucky. He has over 30 years of experience in the planning and design of building structural systems.

Mark Thompson joined Haynes Whaley Associates in 1977, one year after the firm's founding. His education includes a Master of Science in Structural Engineering in 1975 and a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors in Civil Engineering in 1973, both from The University of Texas at Austin. With over 29 years of experience in the planning and design of building structural systems, Mark was responsible for opening the firm's Reston (Washington, DC) office in 1986. Mark is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, a program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

John has over 30 years of experience in the planning and design of building structural systems. He received a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering in 1973 from The University of Texas at Austin. John manages a personnel group of engineers and drafting staff which work together continuously to assure high-quality design on each project produced. His work includes the NASA Sonny Carter Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, which won the 1997 Texas Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award by the Texas Section American Society of Civil Engineers. |

Robert Tyler has over 25 years of experience in the planning and design of building structural systems. He received his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1979. Robert’s role as principal of the firm is to oversee all structural engineering design and production within his group of engineers and draftspersons. In December 2002, Robert was instrumental in the founding of Structures + Haynes Whaley, a Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) certified by the State of Texas, which was founded to provide a highly qualified minority firm for public and institutional projects. |

Wally has over 28 years of experience in the planning and design of structural systems for commercial buildings. He specializes in high-rise design, having been involved in the design of numerous buildings of more than 25 stories. Wally earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree and Master of Civil Engineering degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He is dedicated to education and contributes to the architecture and engineering community by teaching a variety of courses. He served as a lecturer for structural courses in the Architecture Department of Rice University for ten years. |

He has over 13 years of experience in the planning and design of structural systems, including performance halls, convention centers, and recreation centers; mid- to high-rise office buildings; and educational and healthcare facilities. |
