Cardno Haynes Whaley has been active in the Washington, DC market since the early 1980’s, establishing an office in Reston, Virginia in 1986. Ideally located just 17 miles from the District, the Reston office has produced a broad range of projects across the DC area and along the nation’s east coast. A seasoned group of engineering professionals with more than 70 years combined experience manages the Reston team. This highly skilled team works in a small collaborative environment while having the depth of project and technical experience of a large firm. Mark Thompson joined Cardno Haynes Whaley in 1977, one year after the firm's founding. His education includes a Master of Science in Structural Engineering in 1975 and a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors in Civil Engineering in 1973, both from The University of Texas at Austin. Mark was responsible for opening the firm's Reston (Washington, DC) office in 1986. Mark is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, a program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

 
  D. Craig Myers, P.E., LEED AP, Vice President/Principal  
 
Craig has over 30 years of experience in the planning and design of structural systems. He earned his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering with High Distinction from Pennsylvania State University in 1981. Craig serves as a Project Manager in Cardno Haynes Whaley’s Reston office performing and supervising project design, coordination and construction administration.
 
  Thomas P. Heffernan, P.E., LEED AP, Vice President/Principal  
 

Tom has over 25 years of experience in the planning and design of structural systems. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Physics from the College of the Holy Cross in 1984 and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1986. Tom serves as a Project Manager in Cardno Haynes Whaley’s Reston office performing and managing project design, coordination, and construction administration.
