GSD&M Idea City
-
The design team planned the initial 2-story building as a single complex that evokes the feeling of city streets, blocks and neighborhoods; a library; art gallery; 21st century town square and university. The 45-foot-high central atrium and lobby serve not only as a public entry and firm gathering space, but as an exhibition hall displaying the firm’s representative work. Haynes Whaley Associates worked closely with the architect to incorporate colorful designs into the tilt-up concrete facades, and to plan the design so that the headquarters could be built in phases. The phase II expansion, a 4-story, 54,000 sf building, provides additional space for GSD&M’s growing staff.
