Galveston Island Convention Center and Hilton Galveston Island Resort

Galveston Island Convention Center and Hilton Galveston Island Resort - The Galveston Island Convention Center and Hilton Galveston Island Resort are located on a 30-acre beachfront site with the San Luis Resort at 53rd Street and Seawall Boulevard. A structural steel framing system was utilized to accommodate the special features of the convention center project: long span trusses for the exhibit hall’s tall volume space, castellated beams for a lighter and stiffer ballroom level floor, and chevron braces for the coastal area’s high velocity winds. The hotel structural framing consists of a cast-in-place concrete flat-plate system utilizing post-tensioning. A special concrete mix was developed to protect from corrosive salts and coastal conditions.
